The Zambia Institute of Mass Communications (ZAMCOM) was established under the ZAMCOM Act of Parliament of 1996 to provide Communications and Media training and production services. ZAMCOM has recently been undergoing a corporate renewal and is currently implementing a new strategic plan aiming at positioning the organization to become financially viable and independent.

As part of its transformation process, ZAMCOM is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill in the following positions;

LODGE MANAGER

Reporting to the Executive Director

Job purpose

The Lodge Manager will be responsible for all areas of operations of the ZAMCOM Lodge, including staff and guest management, participate in marketing of the facility, as well as provision of leadership and strategic direction. He/she will be required to manage profitability of the lodge and guest satisfaction.

Main duties

  • Responsible for all the operations of the Lodge, including Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, front office, Kitchen and maintenance.
  • Responsible for the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of the annual operating budget.
  • Market the Lodge’s products and maximize revenue through innovative sales and promotional practices.
  • Manage ongoing profitability of the Lodge, ensuring that revenue and guest satisfaction targets are met and exceeded.
  • Closely monitor the Lodge’s business reports on a daily basis and make decisions accordingly.
  • Compliance with all legal requirements by ensuring that all necessary registrations are completed.
  • Assist in the procurement of supplies and equipment and contracting with suppliers for goods and services.
  • Investigate and handle all customer complaints effectively.
  • Manage all staff reporting to the position in order to effectively assist, train, motivate and monitor their activities.
  • Provide effective leadership to Lodge team members.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Full grade twelve (12) Certificate
  • Degree in Hospitality, Hotel Management or related
  • Relevant Master’s Degree shall be an added advantage
  • Five (5) years relevant experience at senior management level
  • High standards of service excellence and a passion for the industry
  • Demonstrated experience of having managed a Hotel or Lodge
  • Excellent Management and communication skills.
  • Computer Literate.

Job profile

To Set up, operate, and maintain electronic equipment used in audio/visual productions and other related services. Control and ensure quality productions.

Main Duties
  • Maintain equipment to ensure that it functions properly
  • Conduct functional and operational testing procedures to ensure quality performance of equipment
  • Work with the creative team to test and integrate new systems for best results
  • Able to use contemporary and industry approved computer software to edit audio and video recordings.
  • Pull together all the strands of creative and practical talent involved in the project to create a team.
  • Monitor, control and ensure timely execution of productions
  • Demonstrate understanding of the production process
  • Organize shooting schedule for the ZAMCOM products and that of clients
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise during productions
  • Ensuring that content meets copyright and legal requirements
Qualifications and skills required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mass communications
  • Minimum of at least one (1) year experience in a reputable organization
  • Research ability, assessment and conceptualization of ideas leading to well-grounded and finished production scripts

LIBRARIAN
 
Job Purpose

To compile records, sort and shelve books, and issue and receive library materials such as books. Locate library materials for loan and replace material in shelving area or files according to identification number and title. Register patrons to permit them to borrow books and other library materials.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct all circulation duties such as Lend and collection of books and periodicals to students.
  • Classifying and cataloguing all Library materials according to cataloguing rules with the aid of cataloguing tools.
  • Shelving of books to designated storage areas.
  • Conduct reference duties such as locating Library materials for students
  • Instruct students on how to use reference sources, card catalogues, and automated information systems.
  • Inspect returned books for condition and due-date status, and compute any applicable fines.
  • Perform clerical activities such as filing, typing, word processing, photocopying and mailing out material, and mail sorting.
  • Ensure members maintain discipline within the library and abide to all the rules stated by the library
  • Send out notices and accept fine payments for lost or overdue books.
  • Repair books, using mending tape, paste, and brushes.
  • Update computerized records with new books and maintain a centrally accessible database.
  • Maintain library inventory and conduct periodic audits of the information on file
Qualifications
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate;
  • Diploma in Library studies
  • Good management skills and interpersonal skills
  • Should be proficient in handling commonly used computer software such as MS Excel documents
  • Knowledge of Library Management systems
  • Attention towards detail and ability to identify necessary requirements of the students in the Library
  • Effective team working skills.

RECEPTIONIST

Reporting to the Personal Assistant to the Executive Director

Job purpose

To receive visitors and direct them to the appropriate office as well as handle incoming and outgoing telephone calls in accordance with stipulated guidelines and etiquette. Deliver excellent customer service being the first point of contact for all interactions.

Main Duties
  • Accept deliveries, mails, invoices organize them to be distributed to the correct recipients using the office mailing system and ensure they get to the recipient in a timely manner.
  • Manage safety and security of property and documents in the reception area, and ensure there is no congestion at the reception
  • Manage calls by routing them to the proper extensions or taking messages and delivering them
  • Ensure internal telephone directory is maintained, and updated regularly
  • Maintain the reception area, keeping it clean and free of clutter.
  • Handle filing and data entry as requested
  • Requisition and maintenance of adequate inventory of office supplies
  • Ensure quick escalation of any system outages impacting operations & ensure follow up till resolution.
  • Maintain register of all customer complaints, requests and queries handled (submit Issues tracker monthly)
  • Any other duties that may be assigned
Qualifications and Skills
  • Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent with five (5) Credits, or better including English.
  • Strong administration skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Computer literate
  • Proactive, punctual and reliable
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and integrity
  • Ability to deal with people daily and is tolerant of discourteous people, polite but assertive
